Bus Advertising in York

Reasons why you should choose Bus Advertising

High Impact

Bus advertising delivers a high impact, large format, advertising message to people during their normal daily routine. It provides an important reminder of a sales message in the geographic area the business operates in.

Longevity of Message

Bus campaigns run in multiples of 4 weeks. The price for the campaign is comparable, and in many cases less than those for a shorter campaign on other local media options.

Cannot Miss It!

The average ‘dwell time’ for a bus rear is 48 seconds! This is one of the longest of any media. If you can see the advert, then so can thousands of others....many of whom will be your potential customers!

Get Results

A visually creative design using a simple call to action will not only increase awareness of your product and service, it will also drive traffic to your website, creating more enquiries.

BUS ADVERTISING IN YORK

Bus advertising in York is a fantastic way for any local business to get an advertising message to their target market quickly, effectively and in a very cost-efficient manner.

This is particularly true for York as it has many different bus routes in, out and around the City. Aswell as the main bus depot which mainly serves the local population, there are several major Park and Ride routes to bring day trippers and tourists into the City.

Buses are something most people take for granted but they play an important part in everyday life. Not only for the people who use them on a daily or regular basis, but also for car drivers. Commuters tend to do the same journey at the same time, every day and will see a bus on just about every journey they take as buses work to a specific time-table. This means you can use the bus as a time-keeper for your journey.

This is why advertising on buses works!

If you see a bus on a regular basis, then so will thousands of other people every day. Therefore, if you advertise on a bus, thousands of people will see your message every day.

Get the message right, and it will be remembered and acted upon!

For the back of a bus, the average ‘dwell time’ (that is the time you are actually looking at the advert) is 48 seconds, which is one of the longest of any media both traditional and on-line. The side of a bus is 13 seconds, which is still very good in the modern world where people’s attention span is getting shorter and shorter.

The next time you are driving behind a bus, take a look at the advert on the back. The advert itself may not be relevant to you, but it will be to other people….and that is the point! Remember, you are selling your product and service to other people, not yourself.

Where you can advertise

Below is a list of places you can advertise a bus.

Lower Rear - the typical advert size is 2 foot high x 5 foot wide. The average dwell time is 48 seconds. It typically targets drivers.

Mega-rear - this is where either a single or double deck has the whole back covered with a vinyl advert. The average dwell time is again 48 seconds.

Street-liner - the side of a single deck bus with the typical advert size being 2' x 13'. The average dwell time is 13 seconds.

Super-side - this is the same as a street-liner but on the passenger side of a double deck bus only. The average dwell time is 13 seconds.

T-side - on the driver’s side of a double deck only. This is typically used when an advertiser has a strong visual creative. It is a firm favourite of national advertisers, including film production companies to promote an upcoming film. The average dwell time is again 13 seconds.

Passenger panels - adverts running on either side of the inside of the bus. This panel will only target bus passengers but the average dwell time will be significant.

Campaign lengths

Campaign lengths are traditionally based on multiples of 4 weeks and you ideally need to use multiple buses for each campaign. The number of buses will be dictated by the nature of your campaign. If your campaign is time-sensitive, you would look at a shorter duration of 4 weeks and have a larger number of buses to give you maximum impact.

In York for a 4 week campaign, I would recommend you look at 10 - 15 buses if you are using the Park and Ride fleet only. However, if  you are using the larger First York fleet, then we recommend you use a minimum of 25 buses as it is a medium sized bus depot covering a big area.

However, if your message is more generic and not time-sensitive, having multiples of 4 weeks (8, 12 etc) is better for the effectiveness of the campaign. When you run a longer campaign, you can use slightly fewer buses, as time and repetition will provide a cumulative effect making people believe there are more buses than there actually are. In this situation, for York, I would look at 20 buses per campaign for the First York fleet.

One thing to take into account over a longer duration would be a refresh of the advert poster to ensure the message looks a good as it can throughout the campaign.

Exception to the above

The exception to the above, would be for Mega Rear advertising. Due to the cost of getting the vinyl printed and fitted, I would recommend that you look at at least a 6 month campaign but it would work out to be more cost-effective over 12 months. For the York area, a minimum of 5 buses would give you a good campaign.

For this campaign, I booked a series of bus lower rear advertising messages.  Buses offer an extremely visual medium, seen on a daily basis by both potential students and their influencers.

"The College has worked with Chris on many campaigns over recent years including billboard, bus and radio and have been very happy with the work carried out on our behalf. Chris is quick to identify opportunities and respond to our needs. We look forward to continuing this working relationship in the coming years and highly recommend CG Advertising.”
