BUS ADVERTISING

Reasons why you should choose Bus Advertising

High Impact

Bus advertising delivers a high impact, large format, advertising message to people during their normal daily routine. It provides an important reminder of a sales message in the geographic area the business operates in.

Longevity of Message

Bus campaigns run in multiples of 4 weeks. The price for the campaign is comparable, and in many cases less than those for a shorter campaign on other local media options.

Cannot Miss It!

The average ‘dwell time’ for a bus rear is 48 seconds! This is one of the longest of any media. If you can see the advert, then so can thousands of others....many of whom will be your potential customers!

Get Results

A visually creative design using a simple call to action will not only increase awareness of your product and service, it will also drive traffic to your website, creating more enquiries.

Get your advertising message seen and noticed!

87% of the UK believe that buses play an important role in the local community. As such they are noticed and used by large numbers of people. Most towns either have a bus depot in the town, or are on one of the routes with a regular timetable. This means that advertisers can build frequency and coverage very quickly getting their message seen and noticed.

Where you can advertise:

  • Bus rear - the typical advert size is 2' x 5’. The average dwell time is 48 seconds.
  • Mega-rear - this is where either a single or double deck has the whole back covered with a vinyl advert. The average dwell time is again 48 seconds.
  • Street-liner - the side of a single deck with the typical advert size being 2' x 13'. The average dwell time is 13 seconds.
  • Super-side - the side of a double deck. The average dwell time is 13 seconds.
  • T-side - on the drivers side of a double deck only. This is typically used when an advertiser has a visual creative such as to promote a film. The average dwell time is again 13 seconds.
  • Passenger panels - adverts running on either side of the inside of the bus.

Successful campaigns need 3 main things:

  • Memorable creative
  • A simple, and ideally, single call to action
  • The right weighting and length of campaign to suit the message

We ensure your campaign has all three, giving it every chance of working.

Bus Advertising Options:

BUS LOWER REAR

This 2 foot x 5 foot advert is situated on the rear of both single and double deck buses and specifically targets drivers of vehicles behind the bus.

The average ‘dwell time’, that is the time spent looking at the advert, is approximately 48 seconds. This is one of the longest of any media and gives the advertiser a great opportunity to promote a direct sales message to a captive audience.

The number of lower rears a campaign would need is dependent on the city or town where the campaign happens. The larger the town, the more buses are required. A typical campaign in an average sized location such as Lincoln, would consist of approximately 20 buses over a minimum of a 4 week period.

BUS MEGA REAR

BUS MEGA REAR

A full vinyl advert on the rear of either a single or double deck bus. These provide a bold, unmissable and memorable impact for any advertiser.

They have an average dwell time of approximately 48 seconds giving consumers time to absorb the message.

Due to the nature of this type of advertising, you ideally need to look at a 12 month commitment to get the best return.

BUS STREET LINER

This is the advert on either/both sides of a single deck bus. It comes in various sizes of approximately 2 foot x 13 foot or 2 foot x 10 foot, depending on the bus fleet in any particular location.

This targets both pedestrians and drivers who see the advert as the bus passes by them. Although the bus is invariably moving, the average dwell time is still an impressive 13 seconds. Street liners give an advertiser the opportunity to promote a generic sales message though it can still successfully carry a direct sales message.

The number of Street Liners a campaign would need is dependent on the city or town where the campaign happens. The larger the town, the more buses are required. A typical campaign in an average sized location such as Lincoln, would consist of approximately 20 buses over a minimum of a 4 week period.

BUS SUPER SIDE

This is the same as the Street Liner but is only on the passenger side of a double deck bus.

It has all the benefits of the Street Liner with the added advantage of being on a much larger vehicle and therefore is more visible.

The number of Super Sides a campaign requires is slightly less than for standard Lower Rears and Street Liners due to the size of the bus. However, the principle of the larger the town, the more you need still applies. Also, be aware that larger towns and cities will have more double deck buses available in their fleets.

BUS T-SIDE

This unusual shaped advert is on the drivers side of a double deck bus only. It has all the benefits of the Street Liner and Super Side, but the shape gives the advertiser the opportunity to have a highly creative design.

The number of T-Sides a campaign requires is slightly less than for standard Lower Rears and Street Liners due to the size of the bus. However, the principle of the larger the town, the more you need still applies. Also, be aware that larger towns and cities will have more double deck buses available in their fleets.

BUS INTERIOR PANELS

Also known as Headliners, these posters are placed on the inside of the bus. They are located just above the heads of the passengers and run on both sides of the bus. These posters specifically target passengers.

A campaign would ideally include atleast 6 panels per bus (3 per side) to get maximum visibility as passengers get on and off the bus.  A typical effective campaign would consist of atleast 120 posters (20 buses) over a minimum of a 4 week period.

City Scrap and Lincoln Tyres

The 8 weeks was important as we wanted to reach drivers during the two traditionally worst months of the year for weather. At this time of year, it is extremely important to have tyres that are in a good condition.

NHS Linconshire West

I put together a plan covering all aspects of outdoor advertising for the Clinical Commissioning Group in Bracebridge Heath. I looked at both billboards and bus advertising as both would give great visibility. The message had to reach the whole of Lincolnshire.(excluding North and North East Lincolnshire).
